Truckee OrienteeringA racing and training club for orienteering - on foot, mtb, skis, or in adventure races. 2014 brings the third summer training season for Truckee. Each Wednesday evening will have a different training course set up: 30-60 minutes depending on the course. Checkpoints will be little pin flags or mini-controls, with no punches. Interval starts, 6pm. Cost is $20 for the season, for any number of trainings, to cover printing and ink costs for the maps. Information for each weeks training usually goes out by email a few days before. Registration is by lunch time each event day - just send me an email that says you're coming, so I know how many maps to print. If I don't hear from you, I probably won't have a map for you. Any Questions? Want to get on the email list for the weekly training announcements? email me.
DetailsMay 28 - Tahoe DonnerThe season starts with visiting dignitary Zan setting us courses at TD. Starts will be at 6pm from the end of Alder Creek Road, here. The course. June 4 - FiberboardThis week we head up above Northstar along Fiberboard Freeway. Technical and challenging. Starts at 6pm, course will be 3km or so. Directions: from Truckee take 267 up past Northstar to Brockway Summit (this is the very top of 267). Just over the top of 267, turn right and go up through the little maintenance-looking yard here onto Fiberboard Freeway. It is paved the whole way! If you get on a dirt road you're doing something wrong. Follow the pavement for a mile or so, up a really steep hill, and once it starts going downhill you should see my car somewhere near here. Parking is along the road, just find a spot that gets your car as far off the pavement as you can. It was tough, and the map was dodgy in a few places, but very good training. The course. Two loops: one set for mtb-o and one set for foot-o. Do the bike loop, then drop off your bike and go run the foot loop! The foot loop will be shorter than normal, maybe 2km, and the bike loop might be 4-5km. All the bike controls will be on trails (singletrack or fire roads). Starts will be at 6pm from the end of Alder Creek Road, here. Two courses this week: the mtb and the run. Pretty sure Jonis won by a few minutes, followed by a close finish between Ali and Paul.
